Decluttering: How to get started even if you are really busy (and the kids are with you)

Take 2 of our live show on decluttering ;)

We talked about how to get started decluttering last week as well but we had a few tech issues so on Monday we re-filmed the show, and I decluttered my handbag live!

The video has more detail but if you don't have time to watch it now, the main point is this - when you're getting started decluttering, and it's overwhelming, or the kids are with you, or you don't have much time, you need to start small.
Really small.
Don't declutter the whole house at once.

Don't declutter one room in one go.

Don't declutter a wardrobe in one sitting.

Start really small, like with your wallet, or handbag, or one shelf, or one drawer.
Watch the video for more detail:

Now it's your turn! Take 15 minutes this week to declutter something in your home, and start small.

Need more help? We cover decluttering and more in the Less Mess, Less Stress.. and More Calm email program here.

  1. It's about starting those habits. Love your tips Marissa. It's so important to keep it real.
I used to check through my handbag while waiting in the car for the kids, if that was done, I'd do the nooks and crannies of the car too. Now the kids catch the bus home - I need to get those receipts out! I have a dump zone for the kids bags, maybe I should just add my boxes and system there too :)
