Easy Mac n Cheese - Simple Kitchen

In this week's episode of Simple Kitchen we are making an incredibly easy version of Mac and Cheese - ultimate comfort food!


500g small pasta
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons plain flour
2 1/2 cups grated tasty cheese
1 teaspoon vegeta (vegetable stock powder)

Optional - add cooked veggies, ham or bacon at the very end for more flavour!  I keep the mac and cheese flavour mild so we can add extras liked cooked peas (my favourite!). If you want to keep it plain but give it more kick, you can double the stock power, add pepper or use a stronger cheese.


1. Cook the pasta until al dente (I just follow the packet instructions)

2. Place 1 cup of the milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat. 

3. While it’s heating up, add the flour to the remaining 1/2 cup of milk  in a small bowl and whisk together until there are no lumps. 

4. When you just start to see steam rising from the milk in the saucepan, whisk in the milk-and-flour mixture. Keep whisking until the milk thickens (3 - 4 mins)

5. Turn the heat to low and begin mixing handfuls of cheese into the milk. Add the Vegeta. Stir until all the cheese has melted, then take it off the heat.

6. Mix the pasta and cheese sauce together and add veggies if you want them. If the sauce is too thick, add add a little splash of milk and stir.

Done! Eat it immediately :)
