The load nobody sees you carrying

Can I tell you what exhausted me more than anything when my kids were little?

It wasn't the cooking, the cleaning, or the school runs.

It was remembering. All of it. All the time.

That we were out of sunscreen. That the permission slip was due Friday. That I needed to book the dentist. That I hadn't called someone back. That the car needed a service. That someone's birthday was coming up and I hadn't organised a present yet.

None of it is hard on its own. But the weight of holding it all in your head - that's what drains you.

It's the mental load. And most of us carry it almost entirely alone.

The thing that helped me most wasn't getting more organised. It was getting it out of my head.

One notebook. One running list - not categorised, not colour-coded, just everything that was swirling around in there, written down somewhere that wasn't my brain.

Suddenly I wasn't scared of forgetting things. I wasn't lying awake running through the week ahead. The list held it so I didn't have to.

If the mental load is getting to you right now, try this tonight:

→ Grab any notebook or open the notes app on your phone.

→ Spend 5 minutes writing down everything that's sitting in your head - tasks, worries, things to remember, things to do.

→ Close it. Let the list hold it until tomorrow.

You don't have to solve any of it tonight. You just have to get it out.

Trust me, your brain will thank you.

Let me know if this resonates 💗
