Where to begin when organising your home

An organised home runs smoothly and feels like a haven to relax in.

Imagine how good it will feel to be able to move through your day almost effortlessly and truly enjoy the space you live in ðŸ’•

But the act of getting your home organised in the first place can be really overwhelming, and that’s why we struggle to do it. It feels like a big job to go through everything, declutter what you don’t need and set up your home so that everything has a home to belong in and is easy to get out, use and put away.

When you picture getting your home organised, do you picture having to do it all at once?

If so, this is the year we are going to let that go.

It’s much easier to organise your home in small steps, starting with the ones areas that need the most attention and going from there.

Which part of your home makes you feel stressed out or cranky right now? Is there a particular cupboard you hate opening? A room you don’t like to go into? A box of stuff that makes you feel guilty when you look at it?

Let’s choose just one of those spaces and work on that in small steps:

✅ Step 1: Just throw away any rubbish, anything expired, or anything broken. Pop it into a bag and into your bin. Then move on with your day.

✅ Step 2: The next day, go back to that space and remove anything you don’t want to keep anymore (it doesn’t matter the reason). pop that into a bag and put it into you car to donate the next time you drive past a donation bin.

✅ Step 3: The next day, head back to that space and look at what’s left. Is there anything you can spot that you know would be better suited in another space? Put those things away where you think they should belong.

✅ Step 4: When you’re ready, go back to that space, take out anything that is left, and wipe down the surfaces so they are nice and clean. Put the remaining items back in neatly, and you’re done!

When you declutter, clean and organise one space at a time in small steps, the overwhelm disappears and it becomes much easier to do it.

If you feel like it’s too much when you start, remind yourself you’re not doing it all, you’re just doing one step. You only have to do it for a few minutes. Then begin, pick up one thing, then another. and you’ll feel the momentum build as you go.

When you’re finished with one space, choose another one that feels frustrating and start again.

Let it become a natural part of your daily rhythm, just one of those small steps in one small space. You don’t even have to do a whole cupboard at once! Just one shelf is fine. Every step is progress and will feel good when you look at what you have achieved!
